Our Kantha cushions, like our kantha's are vintage textiles handmade and completely unique. Individual kanthas are choosen to be made into these wonderful cushion covers. All are sold with a feather cushion pad.

Joyous Kantha cushions are made from vintage saris which have been sewn together using traditional Kantha stitching. They are a traditional example of re-purposing at its best.
"Kantha" refers to both the style of running stitch, as well as the finished cloth and are a symbol of history, family, strength and ingenuity.

Each side is different and tells a story which will continue with each owner. Sometimes patched, these layered piecesare simply beautiful.

Please note:
Due to the age of the piece you should expect to see some evidence of wear and colour staining, which is to be expected and adds to the charm of the piece. The ‘imperfections’ add to the character and history of the item.We don’t advise washing them yourself as they are very fragile, instead use a specialist cleaner or dry cleaners.

Our Cactus Silk cushions are handwoven from the silk of a cactus plant, called the Sabra Cactus which is only found in Morocco. The Sabra silk fibres are then washed, dyed, dried and hand-spun. The fibres are dyed using natural dyes such as rose petals. The cushion covers are then woven on a hand loom and adorned with coloured embroidery depicting Berber symbols. The textures of these cushion covers is like canvas but super soft and smooth.

Please note:

Due to the pieces being hand woven and dyed you might find colour and style variations which shows the touch of the hand. We don’t advise washing them yourself, instead use a dry cleaners.
